This Naval Engineering Standard (NES) defines the requirements for:

The design, manufacture, installation, test and Setting-to-Work (STW) of Domestic Hot and Cold Fresh Water (FW) Systems in Surface Ships and Submarines.

Requirements for special FW services and duties which may be associated with various types of craft and functions are also included.

Comprehensive guidance on the design calculations for the systems with sample calculations (see Annex D.) for both general and special requirements are given.
