This Defence Standard gives the requirements for power driven oil centrifuges in HM Surface Ships and Submarines. It does not cover auto-powered centrifugal filters.
Oil centrifuges are used in lubricating oil, fuel oil and hydraulic oil systems.
Centrifuge installations include:
Oil supply and discharge pumps with associated relief valves. The supply pump may be separately mounted and powered;
Oil suction strainer;
Oil heater, for centrifuges other than fuel centrifuges;
Interconnecting pipework connected to centrifuge (shipbuilder's supply);
Operating water tank and other water supplies with valves and strainers;
Anti-flood tank, for non-self-cleaning centrifuges;
Sludge tank (shipbuilder's supply) for self-cleaning centrifuges;
The following installation boundaries apply;
Oil inlet and outlet connections;
Water supplies to operating water tank and centrifuges;
Water outlet from anti-flood tank, for non-self-cleaning centrifuges;
Water and sludge outlets to sludge tank, for self-cleaning centrifuges;
Electrical terminals on starters, controls and instruments.
