scope:
This Standard specifies requirements for the performance testing of solid-fuel-burning appliances having an air-fuel ratio averaging less than 35:1 as determined by Clause 14. It prescribes a method for determining heat outputs, appliance efficiencies, emission levels and composition, and flue gas flow rates for solid-fuel-fired appliances. The Standard also specifies maximum emission rates.
This Standard includes
(a) manually and automatically fuelled stoves and fireplace inserts; and
(b) factory-built fireplaces with a minimum bum rate less than 5 kg/h.
This Standard does not include central systems, site-built fireplaces, decorative fireplaces, fireplaces with a minimum burn rate above 5.0 kg/h, and cookstoves.
For the purpose of this Standard, the term "solid-fuel" includes biomass fuels such as cordwood, chips, sawdust, peat "logs", wood and paper pellets, and kernel corn. It does not include coal.
