This NES, in conjunction with the documents referred to herein, specifies the requirements for shell and tube surface cooled main steam condensers in HM Nuclear Powered Submarines.
The main steam condenser accepts steam from main propulsion turbines and turbo-generator turbines.
The NES does not cover direct contact condensers.
The NES does not cover the requirements for the following:
Air ejector condensers.
De-aerators.
Desalination plant condensers.
Gland vapour condensers.
Refrigeration and chilled water plant condensers.
Auxiliary steam condensers.
Main steam condenser terminal points are:
Main propulsion/turbo-gen
Feed system flange local to hotwell casing.
Circulating water inlet header inlet flange.
Circulating water outlet header outlet flange.
Facings on the condenser shell for instrumentation and secondary plant connections.
