This Standards Publication covers enclosed and miscellaneous distribution equipment switches that are:
a. Rated at not more than 600 volts and 6000 amperes with or without a horsepower rating
b. With or without provision for fuses
c. With current-carrying parts and mechanisms enclosed in metallic or nonmetallic cases, or that are enclosed when mounted in an enclosed switchboard, panelboard, or the like
d. Manually operable by means of external handles
Note-These devices may also be automatically operable by means of shunt trips, electrical operators, ground fault devices, or other mechanisms.
This standards publication does not cover:
a. The common form of snap switches
b. Switching devices having features intended primarily for the starting and running protection of electric motors as described in NEMA Standards Publications ICS 1, ICS 2, and ICS 3
c. Circuit-breaker-type
d. Molded case switches as described in NEMA Standards Publication AB 1
Fuses, lampholders, receptacles, wire connectors, wires and cables, etc., which may be provided as parts of an enclosed switch, are covered under other NEMA standards publications.
