This detail specification gives additional and supplemental information to the basic specification, MIL-M-81273A(WP); these requirements are invoked when preparing a Weapon System Manual. When the requirements of the detail and the basic specification conflict, the requirements of the detail specification take precedence over the basic specification. It is the intent of manuals procured under this specification to encompass the complete mechanical, electrical, and operational aspects of the weapon system. Manuals procured under this specification tend to be summary documents interrelating data from numerous subordinate manuals within the weapon system. Original detailed data may also be included if it is not the purview of one of the equipment manuals. If the system is purely electronic in nature, the procuring activity may elect to invoke MIL-M81273/6A(WP) Part IV Electronic System Manuals.

Classification by edition, quality, and product are as given in the basic specification. If the type (as defined in the basic specification) is other than Weapon Systems, this detail specification does not apply unless specially invoked by the procuring agency.
