The mortars and pestles covered by this specification shall be used for pharmaceutical, dental, and general laboratory use. Rubber tipped pestles are for soil testing use.

Mortars and pestles shall be furnished in the following types, classes, styles, and sizes or capacities, as specified (see 6.2).

Type I-Porcelain. Class A-Glazed outside. Class B-Unglazed (Wedge- wood). Type II-Glass. Class A-Regular. Class B-Dental. Style 1-With inside mound. Style 2-Without inside mound. Type III-Mullite. Type IV-Cast iron.

Type I, class A-capacity 60, 90, 135, 275, 400, 750, 1900, 4000 milliliters.

Type I, class B-capacity 60, 100, 150, 165, 300, 415, 770, 1185, 1650, 2840, 4730 milliliters. Type II, class A-capacity 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 ounces. Type III-size 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

Type V-Wood, rubber tipped.
