This specification covers vehicular storage batteries of the lead acid type.
Vehicular storage batteries furnished under this specification shall be of the SAE/BCI battery type numbers specified in Table IV and identified by a type designation number (see 1.2.1).
Vehicular storage batteries covered by this specification shall be identified by a type designation number formed as indicated below. This type designation number is intended for cataloging and ordering purposes and not for surface printing on the vehicular battery.

Vehicular battery specification No. W-B-131.
Class of vehicular batteries shall be designated as follows:
1 - Class 1 - Passenger car and light commercial, 12 volt. 2 - Class 2 - Heavy duty commerical, 12 volt. 3 - Class 3 - Passenger car and light commercial, 6 volt. 4 - Class 4 - Heavy duty commercial, 6 volt. 5 - Class 5 - Maintenance-free passenger car and light commercial, 12 volt. 6 - Class 6 - Maintenance-free heavy duty commercial, 12 volt. 7 - Class 7 - Maintenance-free cycling service, 12 volt.
The SAE Type Designation No. shall consist of the types specified in Table IV.
Designation of dry, wet charged, or maintenance free batteries shall be as follows:
D - Dry charged. W - Wet charged. F - Maintenance-free
