The material covered by this specification is intended for use in generator, motor and transformer coils, slot liners and ground insulation, phase to phase insulation, phase and end insulation, primary-secondary separation, coil exteriors, coil wrapper tapes, and similar applications. The highest temperature (limiting "hottest spot" temperature) to which the insulation may be subjected to continuously with normal life expectancy is 220°C. The material should not be used in applications where there is a known corona problem. In general, operating voltage stress should be below 50 volts per mil of thickness. Type I material is for general purpose use; type II material is for use where more tear resistance is required and where increased conformability or pull down on irregular surfaces is required.
