scope:
This document is the Allied Naval Engineering Publication (ANEP) 61 produced by NATO Naval Group 6 (NG/6) Specialist Team on Simulation Based Design and Virtual Prototyping (ST SBDVP). It represents the amalgamation of material supplied by its members (see Annex G).
The formation of the ST SBDVP was instituted by NG/6 in order to inform NATO and Partner nations on the application of SBDVP to naval ship design. The ST has focused on the issues relating to the design of the platform itself (hull, propulsion system, control systems, etc) rather than the combat system, although interfaces to the combat system elements are within the scope of the ST.
The purpose of the ST-SBDVP is to:
"Establish Guidelines for Progressive Investment, Development, Re-use, Interoperability of Warship Virtual Prototypes in order to:
- Reduce Overall Programme Costs & Timescales;
- Increase Levels of Confidence during Design;
- Achieve Better Optimised Capability."
This ANEP documents the findings, conclusions, and recommendations of the Team's study.
With the above purpose, the intended readership is:
- Naval project teams operating within government and industry.
- NATO and Partner nations' representatives considering investment in SBDVP - particularly with a view to co-operative work.
- Other ship design stakeholders.
