scope:
This standard covers aircraft aircrew station alerting systems including general functions; operational logic; information content of messages; and physical characteristics of the alerting system's visual, auditory, and tactile signals.
The purpose of ties standard is to establish uniform aircrew station alerting systems to maximize recognizability. The use of new technology is encouraged where it can be demonstrated that the use of the technology will result in shorter aircrew response times and more effective aircrew action subsequent to presentation of the alert.
The requirements specified herein apply to all aircrew station alerting systems in aircraft acquired by the Department of Defense.
