scope:

This Standard relates to stovingpaints required to give impact-resistant protection finishes to the interior andexterior of jerricans and other small gasoline tanks.

The interior paint film is resistantto gasoline, mineral lubricating oils and ethanediol (ethylene glycol) with andwithout additives, and to water present as a contaminant with any of these materials.It does not become brittle in use or cause "gumning" of gasoline.

The exterior paint adheressatisfactorily to the metal coating and protects containers against corrosionwhen transported or stored under Outdoor weathering conditions. The painted containersare capable of  being handled, whensplashed with gasoline, without damage to the paint,

A singlecoat of exterior finishing paint applied to zinc sprayed mild steel is expectedto maintain its integrity and the steel to be protected from corrosion underoutdoor conditions in temperate of at least 5 years
