REISSUANCE AND PURPOSE
This Directive reissues Reference (a) and, pursuant to Reference (b) and Executive Order 13394, "Providing An Order of Succession Within the Department of Defense" (Enclosure 1), establishes the order of succession to act as Secretary of Defense and other Presidentially Appointed, Senate Confirmed (PAS) Officers in the Department of Defense, except the Secretaries of the Military Departments, whose order of succession is governed by References (c) through (e).
APPLICABILITY
This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities in the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the "DoD Components").
