The Standard specifies the apparatus and procedure to be used in conducting the copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test (CASS test) for assessment to the quality of metallic and related coatings made in accordance with the requirements of coating or product specifications. The test was devised for assessing the quality of decorative coatings of copper + nickel + chromium or nickel + chromium; it also been found suitable for testing anodic oxide coatings on aluminium.
