scope:
This Defence Standard specifies requirements for three types of one-component, ethyl and methyl cyanoacrylate rapid setting adhesives.
The Types of ethyl and methyl cyanoacrylate adhesives are:
Type 1 - low viscosity adhesive
Type 2 - medium viscosity adhesive
Type 3 - high viscosity adhesive
NOTE The majority of cyanoacrylate adhesives used in industry are based on ethyl and methyl cyanoacrylate ester. The ethyl derivative is the most widely used and is recommended for general purpose applications, particularly where rubber and plastics are involved. The methyl homologue gives stronger bonds to metal and generally shows more resistance to solvent attack. The two types are not necessarily interchangeable.
