scope:

The provisions of this code shall regulate the design and construction of the exterior envelope and selection of HVAC, service water heating, electrical distribution and illuminating systems and equipment required for effective use of energy, and shall govern all buildings and structures, or portions thereof, hereafter erected which provide facilities or shelter for human occupancy.

Exceptions

1. Buildings and structures, or portions thereof, which are neither heated nor cooled.

2. Buildings and structures, or portions thereof, whose peak design rate of energy usage is less than 1 watt per square foot (1 0.75 W/m²) or 3.4 Btu per hour per square foot (10.75 W/m²) of floor area for all purposes.

3. Occupancies in Use Groups F and U whose peak design rate of annual energy usage is less than 29,784 Btu per square foot (94 kW/m²) or 8.76 kW hours per square foot (94 kW/rn²) of floor area.
