Introduction

The effects of interference on systems and equipment installed in aircraft appear as a deterioration of, or inability to produce, the wanted performance, but generalization on the effects of interference is difficult due to the very wide range of equipment involved. Because of developments in components and system technology, there has been an increase in the effects of r.f. transmissions both from on-board and external sources. These effects are most severe in the HF band (2 to 30 MHz) and from radars working in the P band (200 to 425 MHz) and L band (1.0 to 1.9 GHz). Interference will affect different types of equipment in different ways, and in different degrees. Examples of effects on particular systems are given below.
