This specification covers ratchet bit braces, corner bit braces, and bit extensions generally used in woodworking for drilling and boring, with round, square or tapered-shank bits.
Federal specifications do not include all types and classes of the commodity which are available, but cover only those which are generally purchased by the Federal Government.
Ratchet bit braces, corner bit braces, and bit extensions shall be of the following types, classes, and styles as specified (see 6.1).
Type I - Ratchet bit brace. Class 2 - Box ratchet. Style A - Ball bearing chuck. Style B - Plain chuck. Type II - Corner bit brace. Type III - Close-quarter, ratchet bit brace. Type IV - Bit extension. Style A - Square socket. Style B - Split collet or jaw.
