This standard specifies mainly the methods for the indication of the geometric tolerances on product drawings.
This standard contains all information items necessary for the geometrical definition of machined products and covers the fundamentals and specific tolerancing information required as the basis of the geometrical tolerancing. It is advisable to consult with the separate standards referred to in Article 3 of this standard, the references indicated in Table 5.2 and the standards referred to in the text of this standard for more detailed information.
Reference : This standard is established on the basis of JIS B 0021 - 1998 (ISO/DIS 1101 - 1996), including the information cited from part of the standards mentioned in Article 3 herein. The provisions containing the changes or additions to JIS B 0021 are indicated by underlining.
Geometrical tolerances shall be specified according to functional requirements. Manufacturing and inspection requirements may also influence geometrical tolerancing.
Indicating geometrical tolerances on a drawing does not necessarily imply the use of any particular method of production, measurement or gauging.
All dimensions, to which this standard applies, shall be measured after heat treatments and surface treatment unless otherwise specified.
Note : This provision is in accordance with Sec. 1.6 of GM Global Dimensioning and Tolerancing Addendum to ASME Y14. 5M 1994
