Introduction

This chapter outlines the general principles by which a project will be controlled and, in particular, the method of ensuring a smooth lead-in to the certification of design.

The design authority (DA) is usually but not necessarily the contractor.

Design records are required to define the standard of design of material procured by the Procurement Executive, Ministry of Defence (MOD(PE)).

This chapter gives the requirements and responsibilities for the preparation, supply, custody, maintenance, reproduction and disposal of design records.

Where the term drawing is used it shall be taken to include drawings and also any associated data, including data retained in a computer system, which defines a product for manufacturing or test purposes.
