This specification covers the design and manufacture of an automatic course keeping control which is used in conjunction with submarine steering gear to control the rudder so as to automatically maintain the submarine's course with the required accuracy and reliability (see 3.2).

The automatic course keeping control shall be of the following types, as specified (see 6.1):

Type I - Suitable for hand electric and automatic course keeping control for submarines that utilize a hydraulic control input signal to the rudder turning gear servo system.

Type II - Suitable for automatic course keeping control for submarines that utilize a synchro control input signal to the rudder turning gear servo system.
