Mobility Aid Securement and Occupant Restraint (MASOR) Systems for Motor Vehicles
|Publication Date:||1 December 1995|
This Standard applies to construction, marking, test procedure, and performance requirements for mobility aid securement and occupant restraint (MASOR) systems used to reduce the risk of passenger injury in special service public transportation vehicles equipped to transport mobility aids.
Note: This Standard contains requirements relevant only to frontal impact of the transporting vehicle and does not contain requirements to determine suitability of any MASOR system for side or rear vehicle impact.
This Standard applies to requirements for MASOR systems of the webbed belt construction.
Note: Requirements for other types of securement systems, such as rigid clamp or latch types, will be developed in the future.
This Standard applies to MASOR systems used with
(a) Type O (occupied) mobility aids; or
(b) Type V (unoccupied) mobility aids.
This Standard does not apply to MASOR systems in personal automobiles.
Note: This is not intended to exclude the use of these systems in personal vehicles.
This Standard does not contain requirements for occupant restraint devices, such as air bags, air cushions, and the like.
Note: Air bags, air cushions, and the like are considered to provide only supplemental protection and, under the requirements of this Standard, are not considered part of a MASOR system.
