MODUK - DEF STAN 81-124
Expanded Polyethylene Sheet and Mouldings, Type QX
Organization: | MODUK |
Publication Date: | 30 June 2000 |
Status: | inactive |
Page Count: | 26 |
scope:
This Defence Standard specifies requirements for expanded polyethylene sheet and mouldings for use as resilient cushioning material for packaging purposes. It is non-silver staining and is resistant to oil and petroleum spirit. The material may be used within the range -20 to + 70°C.
Two types of material having different load bearing characteristics are covered by this Standard.
Type A Maximum static stress 10 Wa
Type B Maximum static stress 7 Wa
Type A material is cross linked and can be thermoformed over a wide temperature range and has additional thermal stability.
The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established, and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Head of Energetic Materials and Terminal Effects Department, Defence Evaluation and Research Agency, Fort Halstead, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN14 7BP.
