This specification covers the requirements for metal containers for the packaging, packing, storage and shipment of items other than subsistence, and the closure, packaging, packing, and marking of filled containers, (see app. I).
The containers shall be of the following types, as specified in the contract or order (see 6.1).
Type I -Cans, rectangular or oblong, screw cap, spout, special or snap-on (type which is opened by a downward pressure in the center) closure.
Type II -Cans, oval, screw cap, spout, or snap-on (type which is opened by downward pressure in the center) closure.
Type III -Cans, round, open top, hermetically sealed closure.
Type IV -Containers, round, multiple-friction top closure.
Type V -Containers round, closed top, metal drum, screw cap, snap-on (type which is opened by downward pressure in the center) flexible spout or plug closure.
Type VI -Containers, round, open top metal pail or drum, full removable bolted ring or lug cover.
Type VII -Containers round, open top, necked-in metal pail, full removable lug cover.
Type VIII-Cans, rectangular, open top, hermetically sealed closure.
Type IX -Container, round, closed top, necked-in bottom metal drum, screw cap, flexible spout, or plug closure.
