Preface

This is the eighth edition of CSA Standard 080 (now CAN/CSA-080 Series), Wood Preservation. It is published in SI (metric) units. This edition supersedes the seventh edition, published in 1983. Earlier editions were published in 1974, 1970, 1966, 1962, 1959, and 1954.

In this edition are the new CSA Standards CAN/CSA-080.M1, Guide for Purchasers and Specifiers of Treated Wood, and CAN/CSA-080.M3, Standard for Quality Control Procedures for Wood-Preserving Plants. These are revised versions of AWPA Standards M1-76 and M3-81 as well as the 080 (blue) Supplementary Requirement M1-76. CSA Standard 080.30, Preservative Treatment with Ammoniacal Copper Zinc Arsenal (ACZA) is no longer a Preliminary Standard. A new Preliminary Standard, 080.31, Preservative Treatment with Chromated Copper Arsenale-Polyethylene Glycol (CCA-PEG), has been added to the series. The balance of the changes to the 1983 edition consist of amendments approved over a two-year period.

This Standard references certain Standards of the American Wood-Preservers' Association and of ASTM, which are supplemented where necessary to suit conditions peculiar to Canada.

The practice of annually reviewing the AWPA and ASTM Standard changes has continued, and will be continued so that those Standards which are referenced can be kept current and new developments may be incorporated if applicable.

Amendments to this edition will be issued in loose-leaf form to replace completely those pages containing obsolete requirements. Where additional pages are required to contain an expanded text, the number given to these pages will be suffixed with a letter.

This Standard may be considered "a minimum Standard that may be modified but, if used without modification, will still protect the user and provide satisfactory service. 4.This Standard was prepared by the CSA Technical Committee on Wood Preservation under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Forest Products, and was formally approved by these Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard of Canada (080.31 excepted) by the Standards Council of Canada.
