3.1.2 H.1.2 Scope

This test method assumes that an API 8-round connection and thread compound, as well as one or more make-up methods, have been selected as a candidate tubular connection system for a maximum axial load and temperature rating and an expected internal pressure service envelope. The procedure provides the data needed to quantify the pressure rating as a function of make-up at the axial and temperature load limits.

This procedure delivers the following relationships defining the make-up performance specification of the candidate connection:

1. Relationship between three candidate make-up methods and connection interference;

2. Connection pin and box stiffnesses relating make-up interference and internal pressure to thread contact stress;

3. Connection leakage pressure as a function of make-up interference; and

4. Connection durability as a function of make-up interference.
