This Standard prescribes the minimum requirements for telecommunications premise wiring systems installed within the family units of a building that is used primarily for residential use (single-family. Multi-occupant, or multi-unit). The installation of the wiring is to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical code, Part I. The wiring system is to be used for new construction and major renovations or additions to a building.

This Standard also prescribes specifications for the telecommunications wiring from the network interface jack (demarcation point) up to and including the telecommunications outlets/connectors on the owner/customer premises.
