No substantive changes have been made to the new editions of CSA Standards B137.1, B137.2, BI 37.4.1, B137.8, B137.11, and B137.12.

CSA Standard B137.0 provides requirements and test methods that are common to some, or all, of the Standards in the B137 compendium. Wherever possible, individual Standards simply refer to the relevant Clauses in CSA Standard B137.0. The major changes in this edition of CSA Standard B137.0 are as follows:

• the inclusion of ANSI/NSF Standard 61 requirements for toxicity (see Clauses 4.2.1 and 6.2);

• the exclusion of Clauses and Tables relating to previous compliance and testing requirements for toxicity.

In CSA Standard B137.3 the following major changes have been made:

• The scope of the Standard was revised to include requirements for gasketed fittings. The revised wording was incorporated into Clauses 3.2.2.2, 3.2.3.2, 5.2. and 5.3, and Table 12. New Clauses 3.2.2.2.3 and 5.1.2 and new Tables 14 and 16 were also added.

• A note was added to Clause 4.4 to clarify Its Intent with respect to gasketed PVC pipe.

• The lowest out-of-roundness tolerance value of the average outside diameter of all IPS and Cl pipe listed in Table 2 has been increased to 0.9%.

• The recommended requirements in Clause A5.3.2 for solvent-cement primer have been revised to reference ASTM f 656.

In CSA Standard B137.4 the following major changes have been made:

• References to CSA Standards CAN3-Z299.3 and ASTM Standards D 790, D 1248, and F 678 have been deleted.

• Clause 3.1.1 includes new requirements, referencing ASTM D 3350.

• Clause 3.2.4.3 includes new requirements, referencing ASTM D 2513.

• Clause 3.3.1.3 contains additional fracture testing requirements for compression fittings, which include reference to ASTM D 2444.

• Clause 4.1.4 includes a revision to the hoop stress value.

• Clause 5.2.2.1 includes a new deviation allowance for the straightening of coiled pipe.

• The minimum frequency of sampling of reworked compound specified in Clause 5.1.2.2 has been reduced.

• Tables 1-3 and 5-8 include numerous revisions to tolerance requirements.

• Table 7 contains changes to test result requirements.

In CSA Standard B137.5 the following major changes have been made:

• Clause 4.1.2.1 has been revised to exclude the need for insert stiffeners.

• Clause 4.1.2.3 has been added to specify material requirements for tubing stiffeners.

• Tables 5 and 6 have been revised.

In CSA Standard B137.6, additional pipe dimensions were added while respecting the intent of an SDR-11 dimension ratio.

CSA Standard B137.7, Polybutylene (PB) Pipe for Cold Water Distribution Systems, was withdrawn by the Technical Committee on Plastic Pressure Pipe in 1998

In CSA Standard B137.9 the nominal pipe size (NPS) of 1/4 has been renamed NPS-3/8, and the previous references to NPS-1/4 have been eliminated in Tables 1, 2, and 3.

In CSA Standard B137.10 the nominal pipe size (NPS) of 1/4 has been renamed NPS-3/8, and the previous references to NPS-1/4 have been eliminated in Tables 1, 2, and 3.

CSA Standard B137.11 describes requirements for pipe and fitting material and dimensions and tests for hydrostatic sustained pressure strength, heat reversion, cold impact resistance, and tensile strength to ensure that the product will give satisfactory service. Appendix A provides recommended assembly and installation practices.

In CSA Standards, "shall" indicates a mandatory requirement; "should" indicates a recommendation or that which is advised but not mandatory: and "may" indicates an advisory or optional statement. Notes to the text do not include mandatory or alternative requirements. The purpose of a note is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material that is not properly a part of the Standard. Notes to figures and tables, however, are considered part of the figure or table and are written as mandatory requirements. Legends to figures are also written as mandatory requirements.

These Standards were prepared and reviewed by the Technical Committee on Plastic Pressure Pipe under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Plumbing Materials and Products and have been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This compendium of Standards will be submitted to the Standards Council of Canada for approval as National Standards of Canada.

Notes:

(1) Use of the singular does not exclude the plural (and vice versa) when the sense allows.

(2) Although the intended primary application of this Standard is stated in its Scope, it is important to note thot it remains the responsibility of the user of the Standard to judge its suitability for any particular purpose.

(3) This publication was developed by consensus, which is defined by CSA Policy governing standardization - Code of good practice for standardization as "substantial agreement Consensus implies much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity". It is consistent with this definition that a member may be included in the technical committee list and yet not be in full agreement with all clauses of this publication.

(4) CSA Standards are subject to periodic review; and suggestions for their improvement will be referred to the appropriate committee.

(5) All enquiries regarding this Standard, including requests for interpretation, should be addressed to CSA International, Standards Division, 178 Rexdale Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario M9W 1R3.

Requests for interpretation should

(a) define the problem, making reference to the specific clause, and, where appropriate; include an illustrative sketch;

(b) provide an explanation of circumstances surrounding the actual field condition; and

(c) be phrased where possible to permit a specific "yes" or "no" answer.

Committee Interpretations are processed in accordance with the CSA Directives and guidelines governing standardization and are published in CSA's periodical Info Update. For subscription details, write to CSA Sales Promotion, Info Update, at the address given above.
