This standard describes installation procedures for nonmetallic raceways of circular cross-section used for electrical power wire and cable, communications wiring, or fiber optic cables.

Products and Applications Included

This publication covers the following, when installed for commercial, institutional, and industrial applications in nonhazardous locations within the confines of the building structure, including raceways installed under floor slabs:

1. Rigid nonmetallic conduit (RNC)

2. Electrical nonmetallic tubing (ENT)

3. Liquidtight flexible nonmetallic conduit (LFNC)

Products and Applications Excluded

This publication does not cover the following:

1. Outdoor installations.

2. Concrete, tile, or fibrous conduits or ducts.

3. Nonmetallic underground conduit with conductors (NUCC).

4. Surface nonmetallic raceways (SNR).

5. Nonmetallic extensions.

6. Nonmetallic auxiliary gutters.

7. Nonmetallic wireways.

8. Optical Fiber Raceway as defined in NEC 770.2.

Regulatory and Other Requirements

a) All information in this publication is intended to conform to the National Electrical Code (ANSI/ NFPA 70). Installers should always follow the NEC, applicable state and local codes, manufacturer's instructions, and contract documents when installing nonmetallic raceway systems.

b) Only qualified persons familiar with the construction and installation of nonmetallic raceways should perform the work described in this publication.

c) General requirements for installing electrical products and systems are described in NECA 1-2000, Standard Practices for Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting (ANSI). Other National Electrical Installation Standards provide additional guidance for installing particular types of electrical products and systems. A complete list of NEIS is provided in Annex A.
