Scope and applicability. AJP-3 is intended for use by the Joint Force Commander (JFC), his Component Commanders and their staffs. This publication can also be used as a reference aid and to promote common understanding of joint operations at all levels. The doctrine in this publication covers the full range of potential NATO operations inside or outside NATO territory, both Article 5 Collective Defence operations and non-Article 5 Crisis Response Operations (CROs) including those conducted in co-operation with the United Nations (UN), the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Western European Union (WEU). It is also applicable to non-NATO nations participating in NATO-led operations.
