Purpose and Scope. This specification gives the general physical, chemical, and biological methods for testing textile fibers; yarn, thread, rope and other cordage; cloth; and fabricated textile products, for conformance with the requirements of material specifications used by purchasing agencies of the United States Government. It does not include certain methods which are described in the specifications for the materials to which they apply. It does not include all of the test methods used in the industry. This specification was prepared in order to eliminate unnecessary or undesirable variations in the general testing procedures.
