scope:
This standard provides procedures for inspecting and testing electromagnetic relays for the applicable mechanical, electrical, and environmental requirements of individual relay specifications. The standard is intended for relays that perform general switching functions in military and commercial systems: it is not applicable to the following electromagnetic switching devices, some of which are covered by other standards:
Choppers
Circuit breakers
Contactors Motor-driven time-delay relays
Relays associated with electric power apparatus
Stepping relays
Pneumatic and hydraulic relays
Reed switch relays (EIA Standard RS-436)
Thermal relays
Solid state relays (EIA Standard RS-443)
For the definition of the various relay terms cited in this publication refer to:
(1) ANSI C83.16-1971 American National Standard Definitions and Terminology for Relays for Electronic Equipment.
