scope:
-The equipment covered by this specification shall provide bearing, distance, and tone identity information to indicate the location of a complementary surface station with respect to the aircraft. As a discrete auxiliary function, the equipment shall also provide information to indicate the link distance with respect to a similarly equipped aircraft. This equipment is the airborne portion of the short-range air-navigation system known as TACAN (tactical air navigation.)
