This Standard sets forth the requirements for the selection and use of highway tanks, portable tanks, cargo compartments and containers as means of containment for bulk dangerous goods of Classes 3,4, 5,6, and 8 v/hen transported by road.
This Standard sets forth the requirements for the handling, filling, and unloading of highway tanks, portable tanks, cargo compartments and containers when used ae moans of oontainmcnt for the transportation of dangerous goods of Classes 3,4,5, 6, and 8 in bulk by road.
Notes:
(1) In this Standard, the portable tank category does not Includo intormodal portable tanks for multimodal transportation or freight contalnors constructed to ISO Standards.
(2) This Standard is not intended to bo a manual for the -selection of the appropriate moans of containment for the transportation of dangerous goods. Rather, it simply sets out certain minimum requirements. In particular, this Standard does not address the chemical compatibility between dangerous goods and the various materials of construction. Consequently, it is essential to exorcise competent technical and ongineoring judgement in conjuction with this Standard.
(3) Where the requirements of this Standard are at variance v/lth the requirements stated in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, the requirements of the Regulations take precedenco.
