The type I coated cloth is intended for use in the manufacture of special cold weather clothing items. The type II coated cloth is intended for use in the manufacture of wet weather clothing items.

It should be noted that various end items fabricated from these cloths require that the material be furnished in the unvulcanized state. Samples furnished for testing under this document are, however, fully vulcanized prior to testing. The end item procurement documents should therefore be reviewed to determine this requirement. Examples of items that would require that the cloth be furnished unvulcanized are: Parka, Wet Weather, MIL-P-87098 and Trousers, Wet Weather, MIL-P-87099.
