This prestandard defines the minimum requirements with which bar code verification instruments following the methodology of prEN 1635 should conform. It defines classes of these instruments, and specifies the test methodology to be followed; it defines reference test symbols to be used for the calibration and testing of verification equipment by verifier manufacturers and users. It also defines in an annex electrical and laser safety requirements and requirements for protection from electromagnetic interference caused or suffered by the equipment.
