General
This Standard specifies requirements for unreinforced concrete construction of housing and small buildings, as covered in Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada (NBC), as well as other concrete work such as slabs on ground, driveways, walkways, patios, steps, and parking areas.
Note: Construction that contains nominal reinforcement provided solely for crack control purposes should also be considered to fall within the scope of this Standard.
For uses other than those described in Clause 1.1.1 or where the construction is designed on the basis of strength, the concrete shall be designed in accordance with CSA Standard CAN3-A23.3 and constructed in accordance with CSA Standard CAN3-A23.1.
Concrete that will be placed in contact with sulphate soils or ground water containing sulphate shall conform to the requirements of Clause 16 of CSA Standard CAN3-A23.1.
Provisions for excavation, drainage, design of footings and foundations, which are not covered in this Standard, shall conform to the requirements of the applicable Building Code.
