This process applies to new construction, expansion, or revamp projects, maintenance, and stocking of rotating equipment parts inventory. This Practice provides guidelines for needed spare parts vs. vendor recommendations, parts interchangeability criteria, startup and maintenance parts, locations of parts stocking, and levels of parts stocking.

Purpose

The purpose of this Practice is to provide a spare parts guideline for the life cycle support of rotating equipment. It defines the key factors used in identifying spare parts requirements and quantities and provides those who approve spare parts acquisition the assurance that recommendations are based on an objective process.

Comment: Spare parts are a part of cost effective equipment management from preliminary design until decommissioning and disposal.

Comment: The availability and quality of the parts contribute to an item's ability to produce beneficial output.
