scope:
This Part of the Standard describes the construction, identification and minimum testing of fiber optic cables for communications and data transfer applications on ships and submarines. They are suitable for use as equipment interconnecting cables and main run cables.
These cables shall be suitable for continuous use within a temperature range of -30°C to +85°c.
The cables shall be suitable for use in flexing and fixed applications and shall have an installed bending radius less than 1 metre.
The sheathing of the fibers in this specification present a limited fire hazard and produce limited levels of noxious fumes, smoke and corrosive products when assessed by the methods of tests in this specification.
Reference should be made to Def Stan 60-1 (Part 0) for the test methods preferred by the Ministry of Defence.
