PURPOSE

The purpose of this AOP is to:

Provide a uniform guide to achieving a positive assessment that a non-nuclear munition is safe and suitable for use by NATO armed forces.

Recommend system safety design and development criteria for munition systems, subsystems, and components.

Provide a methodology for assessing and documenting munition safety.

Provide a questionnaire to establish the nature of environments the munition may see in service (See Annex A).

Present a methodology to define specific details of the service environments (e.g., temperature extremes, shock, and vibration levels) and to identify appropriate testing to demonstrate that the munition performs acceptably under those environments.
