scope:

This Standard defines the requirements for ropes and packings (braids) made mainly from asbestos and intended for Ministry of Defence usage where no suitable alternative exists.

Usage of these item is confined to the following:

Caskets and packing on vehicle and aerospace engines.

Insulation on pipes and ducts where the required properties cannot be net by the use of other safer alternatives.

Usage must be sanctioned by the appropriate Design Authority and their authority must be quoted on all requests for new stocks. 

Finished particulars, are defined in Table I including performance limits required when tested by the methods prescribed in this Standard.
