APPLICABILITY AND SCOPE

1. The provisions of this Directive apply to the Office of'the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Military Departments, the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Defense Agencies (hereafter referred to as "DoD Components").

2. Design-controlled items managed as security classified materiel by the Defense Nuclear Agency are specifically exempted from the provisions of this Directive. Applicability to design-controlled cryptologic items will be prescribed by the National Security Agency and published in DoD 4100.39-M.

3. Other U.S. Government agencies and activities, NATO countries, and other foreign governments now participating in DIDS or electing to participate in the future shall promulgate this Directive as required to ensure complete compatibility with the DIDS.
