FOREWORD

For many years the philosophy and principles evolved by the Ordnance Board and other authorities concerning the safety and suitability for service of weapons and weapon systems in which explosives are used have been published in Ordnance Board Proceedings, Defence Standards, STANAGs and other authoritative documents. There are a large number of such individual publications, and it is difficult to be aware of all the information available. Therefore, to assist those concerned, this publication has been prepared in a form convenient for reference, by assembling in one volume the philosophies and safety principles for advising on the safety and suitability of service of weapons and explosives. Its primary purpose is to provide the guidelines which the Board will use when assessing weapons and weapon systems.
