The filter-separator assembly described in this specification is intended for use onboard Naval ships to remove solids and water from fuel systems. These filter-separator assemblies are used in JP-5 and Naval Distillate fuel systems for aircraft, propulsion and auxiliary power gas turbines, diesel engines, and other miscellaneous internal combustion engines. New ships being designed with stainless steel fuel systems will utilize stainless steel filter-separators. This specification is also applicable to existing ships with copper-nickel fuel systems. Therefore, the purchaser must ensure the filter-separator assembly ordered to this specification is compatible with system materials and requirements.
