This NES states the safety requirements for fittings and equipment and is intended to give guidance to Design Authorities on the standard of design and testing of pressure hull valves etc, which forms the boundary resisting ambient sea water pressure in HM Submarines.

These requirements are to be applied to all HM Submarines wherever possible. All changes to existing designs are to comply with this NES but retrospective action is only to be undertaken if authorized by Director General Submarines (DGSM).
