This Standard covers the construction, inspection, test, maintenance, and operation of power operated mobile cranes ot the rope suspended boom type and the hydraulic boom type.
The category of mobile cranes covered by this Standard includes the following, and any variations thereof which retain the same fundamental characteristics:
(a) Crawler cranes;
(b) Wheel mounted cranes.
The scope includes only cranes of the above type which are basically powered by internal combustion engines or electric motors and which utilize rope suspended booms or hydraulic booms.
This Standard is applicable only to machines when used as lifting cranes and does not apply to:
(a) Basic machine types within the scope but which have been converted for excavating work such as shovels, draglines and clam shells or other uses not considered to be a lifting service;
(b) Cranes designed for railway or automobile wreck clearances;
(©) Any orane having a maximum rated capacity of 1 ton or lees.
