Preface

This is the first edition of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-Z243.39, Programming Language - COBOL, and is an adoption of ISO Standard 1989-1985, which, in turn, is an adoption of ANSI Standard X3.23-1985, American National Standard for Information Systems - Programming Language - COBOL.

This Standard was reviewed by the CSA Technical Committee on Languages under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Information Processing Systems and was formally approved by these Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.
