| Organization: | MODUK |
| Publication Date: | 29 January 1968 |
| Status: | inactive |
| Page Count: | 9 |
scope:
This Standard specifies methods of preservation used in Military Level packaging, in accordance with Def Stan 81-41, of gasoline and diesel engines configured with a metering fuel pump. It is complementary to the current Service Packaging Instruction Sheet, (SPIS).
Aircraft engines are outside the scope of this document.
Also generally excluded are diesel engines incorporating individual injector metering pumps (identified by a single fuel supply line, 'common rail', from pump to injector(s) / rocker cover).
Where long term preservation, as defined by Def Stan 81-41, is required and there is no suitable long term preservative for internal channels then the following procedure may be used. The preservation procedure shall use the normal operating fluid as the preservative, unless otherwise specified by the SPIS. The engines shall then be packaged in a fully desiccated pack as per Def Stan 81-41, with internal channels 'dry' having drained all the preservative substances.
NOTE This standard may not be suitable for items designated as short-term storage items, e.g., to be used within a year after receipt, and to be recommissioned in the field
