scope:
This Defence Standard describes the method for specifying the requirements for polyamide (PA) thermoplastic moulding and extrusion materials based on PA 6, PA 66, PA 69, PA 610, PA 612, PA 11, PA 12 and PA MXD6 for Ministry of Defence use. It is applicable to polyamide homopolymers ready for normal use, both unmodified and modified by, for example, colourants, additives, fillers, reinforcing material and polymer modifier. This Standard does not apply to the casting types of PA 6 and PA 12.
The designation system described in this Standard is based upon the designation procedures of IS0 187411, which differentiates polyamide plastics on the basis of viscosity number, tensile modulus of elasticity and information about chemical structure, intended application, method of processing, additives, colour, fillers and reinforcing materials. In this Standard, the procedures described in IS0 187411 have been extended for Ministry of Defence use by the inclusion of additional requirements for impact strength, burning characteristics and electrical properties.
NOTE: Users of this Standard should consult the material suppliers to obtain the data required to designate grades previously specified.
