OBJECT AND SCOPE

The objectives of this Code are to provide procedures for the accurate testing and evaluation of the performance of mechanical and natural draft cooling towers. Under good, stable testing conditions, uncertainties of less than 2.5% can be obtained.

The scope of this Code includes the procedure to be used and the instrumentation required to obtain the following measurements:

(a) circulating water flow entering the tower

(b) hot water temperature to the tower

(c) cold water temperature leaving the tower

(d) wet-bulb temperature of the air entering the tower

(e) dry-bulb temperature of the air entering the tower

(f) wet-bulb temperature of ambient air

(g) dry-bulb temperature of ambient air

(h) makeup water flow

(i) makeup water temperature

(j) blowdown water flow

(k) blowdown water temperature

(l) fan driver power

(m) wind velocity

(n) atmospheric pressure

(o) water analysis

(p) tower pumping head

(q) air flow through the tower

(r) exhaust air wet-bulb temperature

(s) exhaust air dry-bulb temperature

(t) measurement of drift losses

(u) sound level
